Referendum in Ghana 1960

In the 1960 referendum in Ghana , the people of Ghana were asked to vote on the first constitution of the state that had been independent since 1957. This constitution provided for the introduction of a strong presidential office. The constitution was adopted in the referendum. Kwame Nkrumah was elected Ghana's first president on the basis of the 1960 constitution.
