Incumbent John Dramani Mahama (2010)

The presidential elections in Ghana 2012 took place on December 7, 2012 at the same time as the parliamentary elections. After the death of incumbent President John Atta Mills ( NDC ) on July 24, 2012, Vice President and party comrade John Dramani Mahama took over the business of government and new elections were announced. Contrary to previous polls, John Dramani Mahama won the elections with an absolute majority of just over 50%, so that a run-off election planned for December 28, 2012 in the absence of an absolute majority was superfluous.

Between March 24 and May 5, 2012, voters were able to have themselves entered on the electoral roll of the Electoral Commission of Ghana .

In early December 2012, the opposition Nana Akufo-Addo ( NPP ), who only failed in the 2008 runoff to Atta Mills, was just ahead of his challenger and incumbent Mahama in polls; no other candidates were given a chance.
