General election in Ghana 2000

The parliamentary elections in Ghana 2000 were held on December 7th under fair conditions. The presidential elections were held at the same time. Parliamentary elections take place in Ghana every four years. For the 2000 election, 10,698,652 voters were registered. A total of 6,633,306 votes were cast, which corresponds to a turnout of 62.0% of the registered voters. 102,549 votes were invalid.

Because there were irregularities in one constituency, by-elections were held on January 3, 2001. The constituency that was initially open went to the New Patriotic Party in these by-elections .

Since the parliamentary seats in the 2000 elections were only awarded by direct election, the percentage figures are only of limited informative value. For example, this can lead to a distribution of 2.25% of the votes without gaining a seat in parliament if no direct mandate has been won.
