The FEI Vaulting World Cup (FEI Vaulting World Cup ™) is a tournament series held since 2011 by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) .

Story and mode

The idea of holding a World Cup tournament series during the indoor season, as in other equestrian sports, came from the German vaulting artist Kai Vorberg . Together with two of the largest tournament organizers from Germany and Austria, EN GARDE Marketing GmbH and horsedeluxe event GmbH, the tournament series was developed and held for the first time in winter 2010/2011 - as an official tournament series of the FEI.

Each World Cup stage and also the World Cup final are carried out according to a simple mode: In each competition of the World Cup (single women, single men, pas-de-deux / double vaulting) two freestyle are carried out. The final result is calculated from the addition of the results of the two freedoms.

Until the 2017/2018 season, the tournament series was referred to as FEI World Cup Vaulting (FEI World Cup ™ Vaulting).

Scoring points

The system for awarding the rating points has remained largely unchanged since the first season. The vaulters can collect points at all stages. Since the 2013/2014 season, only the two best results from each vaulting artist / pair have been included in the respective overall ratings.

Up to the 2017/2018 season, points were awarded as follows:

space 1 2 3 4th 5 6th 7th 8th
Points 15th 13 11 9 7th 5 3 1

For the 2018/2019 season, the number of possible participants per evaluation test was increased and the table for awarding evaluation points was adjusted:

space 1 2 3 4th 5 6th 7th 8th 9 10
Points 15th 13 11 9 7th 5 4th 3 2 1

In the World Cup finals, all participants start from scratch again, the only decisive factor for winning the World Cup is the result there.

World Cup 2010/2011

The 2010/2011 season served as a test season with a total of five tournaments. World Cup stages took place in Munich ( Munich Indoors ), Dresden (Advent tournament), Salzburg (Amadeus Horse Indoors) and Paris-Villepinte (Salon du cheval). At all World Cup tournaments, individual vaulting tests for women and individual vaulting men were carried out.

The 2011 World Cup finals in vaulting were held together with the World Cup finals in dressage , show jumping and driving in four in hand in Leipzig.

In the overall ranking of women, Pia Engelberty , who competed in all four World Cup tournaments, was in the lead with 29 points. Antje Hill and Simone Wiegele (all three for Germany) followed with 26 points each . In the men's race, with three wins and 45 points, the Swiss Patric Looser was clearly in the lead in the overall standings. Yvan Nousse (France / 35 rating points) and Lukas Klouda (Czech Republic / 27 rating points) followed in second and third place.

World Cup 2014/2015

With the exception of the final, the tournament calendar for the 2014/2015 World Cup season was initially identical to the previous season, with stages in Munich, Stuttgart, Paris-Villepinte, Salzburg and Leipzig. However, since no pair of this World Cup season in Stuttgart submitted their entry , the invitation to a CVI Master Class was changed. Graz was chosen as the location for the World Cup finals.

In the four remaining World Cup stages, two wins in the women's category and the lead in the overall standings went to Lisa Wild . Wild had already won a World Cup stage in 2011 and, after a long injury, had competed in a World Cup test for the first time in the 2013/2014 season. Simone Jäiser followed with a victory and a second place in second place, third place with 24 points went to Anna Cavallaro. Cavallaro had to do without her successful horse Harley in this World Cup season, especially a fifth place in the World Cup test in Salzburg (eighth place in the first lap) cost her important points.

In the men's category it was again Nicolas Andréani who took the top position with two wins. Second place in the overall standings was shared by Viktor Brüsewitz, Julian Wilfling (both Germany) and Lukas Klouda (Czech Republic) with 26 points each. In the double vaulting category, the three best pairs of the 2014 World Cup final were also dominant in the 2014/2015 World Cup season, but in reverse order: Evelyn Freund and Stefanie Millinger received 30 points, 28 Pia Engelberty and Torben Jacobs and 26 Jasmin Lindner and Lukas Wacha.

Results of the 2015 World Cup finals in Graz

In February 2015, a world cup final in vaulting took place in Austria for the first time. The "Festival of the Horses Graz", riding tournament and equestrian fair in the city hall of Graz was chosen as the venue .

In the women's singles, last year's winner Anna Cavallaro was able to compete again with a Harley . She received an average grade of 8.631 for her expressive freestyle courses with a high level of difficulty. But Lisa Wild and Simone Jäiser made up the victory among themselves. While the victory in the first freestyle went to Wild, Simone Jäiser won the second freestyle with an outstanding score of 9.218. But overall, the World Cup final victory went to Lisa Wild with a margin of 0.010, Jäiser was once again World Cup runner-up.

The men's standings were marked by the end of Nicolas Andréani's career. While the Frenchman had to give way to Thomas Brüsewitz in the first freestyle, he won the second freestyle by a clear margin and thus secured the third World Cup final victory of his athletic career.

The final decision in the pas de deux was clouded by several rejections: Pia Engelberty was unable to travel to Graz due to an examination of her studies, the Freund / Millinger couple dropped out due to injury, and participation was not possible for other couples. So only two pairs started, victory went to the fourth-placed pair at the 2014 World Equestrian Games: Gera Marie Grün and Justin van Gerven.

World Cup 2015/2016

With the 2015/2016 season, individual and pas de deux evaluations became mandatory for all World Cup tournaments, whereupon Stuttgart withdrew from the Vaulting World Cup. Two new stages were added: In the 2015/2016 World Cup series, valuation tests were held at tournaments in Madrid (Madrid Horse Week), Paris-Villepinte, Salzburg, Mechelen (Jumping Mechelen) and Leipzig. The World Cup final in single and double vaulting was held in Dortmund in 2016.

The first two stages of the World Cup in Madrid and Paris took place on the same weekend. In Madrid, special stages had been announced in all three competitions, but the pas de deux freedoms did not take place. Thus, the double voter was able to collect evaluation points in four stages this season, the single voter in five stages.

With two wins from just two tournament starts, Anna Cavallaro collected 30 points in the overall standings for women singles. Simone Jäiser was able to achieve three victories from four starts, and due to the World Cup regulations she also received 30 points. Third place with 24 points each was shared by Anne Sophie Musset from France and Kristina Boe from Germany. In the men's race, Jannis Drewell (Germany) collected 30 points. In his first World Cup season after a career break due to injury, Daniel Kaiser (Germany) scored 28 points. Clement Taillez from France achieved the same number of points .

Pia Engelberty and Torben Jacobs collected 30 points for the overall standings with two stage wins, Erika di Forti and Lorenzo Lupacchini (Italy / 28 evaluation points) came second.

Results of the World Cup Final 2016 in Dortmund

The final of the 2015/2016 World Cup season was initially awarded to Vienna. However, since the Vienna Horse Festival was completely canceled, the Vaulting World Cup was without a final location. In January 2016, the FEI re-awarded the final; Dortmund and Saumur had applied as venues. The traditional Westfalenhallen horse show (Signal Iduna Cup), which had already hosted the show jumping World Cup in 1990 and the dressage World Cup final in 1999, was awarded the contract.

The World Cup final was held in early March 2016. The second women's freestyle and the double vaulting were organized in the evening program of the tournament Saturday (March 5th), the second men's singles freestyle took place in the late morning of March 6th, 2016.

The horse of the 2013 and 2014 winner, Anna Cavallaro, did not pass the vet check in Dortmund, whereupon Cavallaro had to start with a replacement horse in the women's singles. She came in fourth, well behind the leaders. Instead, Simone Jäiser dominated the competition. After she came in second place several times in World Cup finals, Jäiser attacked in the last two tests of her active vaulting career and won both freedoms and thus the World Cup final. Kristina Boe came in second, the 22-year-old Austrian Isabel Fiala in third.

There was also a sporty farewell to the double vaulting: After completing her teaching degree, Pia Engelberty retired from competitive sports, Dortmund was her last appearance together with Torben Jacobs. With a clear lead and in the second freestyle with a grade of 9.217, both of them clearly won the World Cup final.

Starting as the favorite in the men's singles, Jannis Drewell made a major mistake at the beginning of his first freestyle. Daniel Kaiser, on the other hand, convinced with a new freestyle and won the freestyle with a score of 0.425 points. Although Drewell lived up to his role as favorite in the second freestyle and won, Kaiser was ahead in the final ranking of the World Cup final.

World Cup 2016/2017

The tournament calendar for the 2016/2017 season was identical to the previous year with stages in Madrid, Paris-Villepinte, Salzburg, Mechelen and Leipzig as well as the final in Dortmund. Once again there was no qualifying test in double vaulting at Madrid Horse Week, the tournament in Paris took place on the same weekend.

With two wins each, two female vaulters were ahead in the overall ranking of the women’s individual: Anna Cavallaro and her lunge guide Nelson Vidoni contested this World Cup season with a new horse, the 2006 born chestnut gelding Monaco Franze . Last year's World Cup final runner-up, Kristina Boe, also collected 30 points. Silvia Stopazzini came third with 26 points.

Stopazzini was also successful in the pas de deux: together with Lorenzo Lupacchini, she won the special stages in Mechelen and Salzburg, after having finished second in Leipzig (30 points for two wins). Torben Jacobs collected 28 points together with his new sports partner Theresa-Sophie Bresch. In the men's individual, Lukas Heppler from Switzerland led the overall ranking with 30 points. Jannik Heiland (Germany / 26 rating points) came in second.

Result World Cup Final 2017 in Dortmund

After Dortmund was subsequently selected as the final venue instead of Vienna last year, the FEI awarded the 2017 final directly to the Signal Iduna Cup. The tournament, which was held in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle, took place from March 2nd to 5th in 2017.

In the women's final there was a duel for the World Cup victory: While Anna Cavallaro still won 0.2 points in the first freestyle, Kristina Boe was able to win the second freestyle with a minimal advantage. Due to the lead from the first freestyle, the 2017 World Cup victory went to Cavallaro. Only an hour after her start in the women's singles, Silvia Stopazzini was due to appear in the pas de deux freestyle. Stopazzini and Lorenzo Lupacchini clearly won both freestyle examinations and thus secured the World Cup victory.

Similar to the women's final, the men's first freestyle also led to a clear lead, with last year's second Jannis Drewell winning ahead of Lukas Heppler. In the second freestyle, Heppler came close to Drewell's result. But Jannis Drewell also won this test and became the 2017 men's World Cup winner.

In the pas-de-deux, the dominant couple of the previous year, Silvia Stopazzini and Lorenzo Lupacchini, did not participate in the World Cup season. The couples Theresa-Sophie Bresch / Torben Jacobs and Zoe Maruccio / Syra Schmid each got 28 points and thus finished first with equal points before the World Cup final.

Result of the World Cup Final 2018 in Dortmund

In the 2018 season, the World Cup final was awarded directly to the Signal Iduna Cup in Dortmund. In 2018, the tournament held in the Westfalenhalle took place from March 22nd to 25th.

In the first freestyle, Nadja Büttiker confirmed her position in the season ranking and took the lead with a lead over Kristina Boe. The second freestyle, however, went far less well for her: Büttiker slipped away once during the freestyle and made an unplanned departure from the horse. Nevertheless, it showed the second best performance of its competition with 8.293 points. For Kristina Boe, however, her freestyle went perfectly, the judges gave her and her gelding Don de la Mar 8.835 points. On average in both tests, this was enough for Boe to take first place and win the World Cup final for the first time.

The decision for the title in the pas-de-deux was clear: Theresa-Sophie Bresch and Torben Jacobs secured the World Cup title on the back of Holiday On Ice . In the second freestyle, Jolina Ossenberg-Engels Timo Gerdes was also able to convince the judges, they received a grade of 8.035. But they had already blocked their chances in the first freestyle, where they had two falls.

The starting field in Dortmund for the men was high: only Balázs Bence from Hungary could not keep up in terms of performance and came in sixth with an overall result of 6.237 points. The five other participants all finished their freestyle with grades of 8.0 and better. The winner of both freedoms and thus also the winner of the World Cup was Jannis Drewell for the second time in a row.
