The 1998/99 season was the 17th edition of the highest English women's ice hockey league , the Women's Premier Ice Hockey League . The league is run by the English Ice Hockey Association , the English association under the umbrella of the British ice hockey association Ice Hockey UK . The winner received the Chairman's Cup . The Sunderland Scorpions won the title for the fifth time in a row.

Initially, all teams played a simple round with a return leg. The four best reached the semifinals. The games lasted 3 × 15: 00 minutes. There were two points for a win and one point for a draw.

Relegation
First, the two group winners of Division I competed in two games against each other. The winner had the right to participate in relegation games against the last placed in the Premier League. The Nottingham Vipers were able to prevail as representatives of the Premier League and hold the class.

The Women's National Ice Hockey League is the second tier of the English women 's ice hockey league after the Premier League. Division 1 is the highest class in it. It is divided into two regional groups.
