The 1988/89 season was the seventh edition of the highest English women's ice hockey league , the British Women's League . The league is run by the English Ice Hockey Association , the English association under the umbrella of the British ice hockey association Ice Hockey UK . The winner received the Chairman's Cup .

By expanding to three divisions, the Scottish Dundee Royals and the Welsh Cardiff Comets participated for the first time non-English teams.

mode

All teams played a simple round with a return leg. There was no relegation. For the first time, the league was held in three regional groups. The best teams in these divisions then met in a tournament in a knockout system.

Final Four

The winners of the three groups and the best runner-up took part in the final tournament. A semi-final was played in only one game. The winners reached the final. The two losers played for the bronze medal.
