The 2001/02 season was the 20th edition of the highest English women's ice hockey league , the Women's Premier Ice Hockey League . The league is run by the English Ice Hockey Association , the English association under the umbrella of the British ice hockey association Ice Hockey UK . The winner received the Chairman's Cup . After the long winning streak was interrupted last year, the Sunderland Scorpions took the title back.

Initially, all teams played a simple round with a return leg. The four best reached the semifinals. A relegation did not take place. The last placed rose to Division I, the play-off winner of Division I rose directly to the Premier League.

Division 1
The Women's National Ice Hockey League is the second tier of the English women 's ice hockey league after the Premier League. Division 1 is the highest class in it. It is divided into two regional groups. A double round was played in the north group and a single round in the south group.
