Waisenegg is a former municipality with 1069 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2016) in the market town of Birkfeld in the district of Weiz , Styria . As part of the structural reform in Styria , it has been merged with the neighboring communities of Gschaid bei Birkfeld , Haslau bei Birkfeld , Birkfeld and Waisenegg since 2015 . The new market town continues the name "Birkfeld".

Waisenegg is located in the Eastern Styrian hill country in the Fischbacher Alps , northwest of Birkfeld.

The municipality comprised the following two cadastral communities and towns of the same name (residents as of January 1, 2020, area as of 2015):
- Piregg (287 Ew., 1,173.43 ha)
- Waisenegg (726 Ew., 1,431.97 ha)
history
The land register of the Bishop of Seckau first mentions Wessenekke in 1295 . Pirchek is also mentioned in the tithe book of 1389 . In 1968 the communities of Waisenegg and Piregg, founded in 1850, were united. In 2015 the community existed for 165 years before it was merged with the neighboring communities of Gschaid bei Birkfeld , Haslau bei Birkfeld , Koglhof and Birkfeld as part of the Styrian community structural reform . The new market town continues the name "Birkfeld".

The last mayor of the community was Franz Tiefengraber. After the 2010 elections, the municipal council was composed as follows: 12 ÖVP , 2 SPÖ , 1 FPÖ .
