Valery Alexeyevich Muratov
Valeri Alexejewitsch Muratow ( Russian Валерий Алексеевич Муратов ; born May 1, 1946 in Kolomna ) is a former world-class speed skater of the former USSR and since 1980 (?) Current Russian national speed skating coach.
He represented his country at three consecutive Winter Olympics (1968 in Grenoble , 1972 in Sapporo and 1976 in Innsbruck ). He trained Kolomna in the Burewestnik club and later in the army sports club .
Muratov began speed skating in 1962 and became a member of the USSR national squad in 1966. He won the first, as yet unofficial, speed skating sprint world championship in 1970 and achieved another victory as well as a second and third place in subsequent sprint championships until 1975. He never achieved an Olympic victory, but a bronze medal in 1972 and a silver and bronze medal in 1976. He was five times Sprint national champion and improved the 500 m world record three times in 1970.
After his active time he started a successful career as a coach and supervised a. a. Sergei Chlebnikow and Igor Schelesowski .
