The Walluf (also "Wallufbach", formerly also "Waldaffa") is a 13.7 kilometer long right tributary of the Rhine in the Rheingau-Taunus district .
course
It has its origin in the High Taunus above Bärstadt . It flows from there in an easterly direction to Wambach , then turns south and cuts, accompanied by high mountain slopes, between Schlangenbad and Georgenborn the Taunus main ridge . The Rechtebach now flows in from the left, just above the mouth there is the Rechtebachtal nature reserve near Georgenborn . At Eltville - Martinsthal it reaches the Rheingau , then flows through the Wallufer district of Oberwalluf and flows into the Rhine at Niederwalluf . In the Middle Ages, the brook was the border between the Rheingau and the Königssondergau . The border on the west bank was secured for centuries by the Rheingau Gebück .
Geography and traffic
The Walluf still has a border function today, in a natural spatial sense: its valley, cut deep into the Hohe Taunus , separates the Rheingau mountains in the west from the Wiesbaden Taunus ridge in the east. In the Walluftal the federal highway 260 runs as one of the main traffic connections through the Taunus between Rhine and Lahn .
