Hiking Association Bavaria

The Bavarian Hiking Association is the state-wide umbrella organization for currently 16 mountain and hiking clubs in Bavaria with a total of around 100,000 members. It has the largest number of members and the largest regional association in the German Hiking Association . The full name of the hiking association of Bavaria is: Landesverband Bayern der Deutschen Gebirgs- und Wandervereine eV It is a registered association in the register of associations in Nuremberg, VR 1144. The office is in Bischberg near Bamberg.

Foundation, tasks and goals of the association

The Bavarian Hiking Association was founded in Bad Steben in 1972 . It represents the interests of its currently 16 member associations at state and federal level. Statutory goals of the association include a .:

  • The preservation, care and development of the diversity, uniqueness and beauty of nature and landscape and the functionality of the natural balance, in particular of the traditional landscape and the communities and habitats of native wild animals and plants. As a recognized nature conservation association, the Bavarian Hiking Association is involved in various tasks and decisions that affect these goals.
  • The promotion of hiking with the aim of promoting an understanding of nature and landscape and avoiding or reducing conflicts between nature conservation and landscape maintenance on the one hand and recreational activities on the other; u. a. Through the issuing of hiking maps and the training of hiking, nature and landscape guides as well as the creation and maintenance of hiking trails, hiking parking lots, nature trails, hiking homes, shelters and observation towers, the experience of nature should be made possible and at the same time the necessary, undisturbed development areas should be secured for nature .
  • The maintenance of culture in its landscape-bound manifestations in customs and costume , folk art and monument preservation .
  • The promotion of youth and family work.

The Bavarian Hiking Association operates the Bavarian Home and Hiking Academy for training and further education. At the academy, a. DWV hiking guides® and certified nature and landscape guides (BANU) trained and advanced, as well as health hiking guides according to the guidelines of the German Hiking Association.

Structure of the association

The Bavarian Hiking Association has a board of directors that is elected for a four-year term by a representative assembly of the member associations and is headed by the Presidium. The last elections took place on March 9, 2019. Acting President is Dr. Gerhard Ermischer from the Spessartbund eV, the acting vice-presidents are Karlheinz Schuster from the Fränkischer Alb-Verein eV and Sven Hähle from the Alz-Ruperti-Wanderwege-Verein eV

The board also includes the elected technical supervisors who head the departments. The departments are: Family, Youth, Culture, Nature Conservation, Press and Public Relations, Hiking, Paths (divided into the areas of path promotion and path management).

Hiking trails network in Bavaria

The Bavarian Hiking Association receives funding from the Free State of Bavaria for the construction and maintenance of the hiking trail network in Bavaria. The member associations of the Bavarian Hiking Association mark and maintain a network of hiking trails of around 43,000 km in length.

At the beginning of March 2019, the Bavarian State Minister for the Environment and Consumer Protection, Thorsten Glauber ( Free Voters ), promised an increase in funding for hiking trails work. According to media reports, an additional 200,000 euros are earmarked for the maintenance of an intact network of hiking trails in the draft budget of the Bavarian state government for 2019/2020.
