history

The Wandrahm was built at the Reiherstieg shipyard under the direction of Joachim Eduard von Somm and was launched there in 1854 with construction number 9 as a full ship. Starting no later than 1870, was Wandrahm as Bark rigged. The owner was the trading house Joh. Ces. Godeffroy & son of the Hamburg businessman Johan Cesar Godeffroy . The sailing ship was after Elbinsel Wandrahm named on which the residence and the office of the Godefroy family was.

The ship transported in liner service mainly expatriates and trade goods from Hamburg to Australia , South Africa and Chile . On a trip from Hamburg to Australia in 1865/66 there were an unusually high number of deaths. After arriving in Brisbane harbor doctor diagnosed typhoid and put the Wandrahm under quarantine . Passengers also complained about the lack of food and bad treatment during the trip.

On May 1, 1869, the natural scientist and ethnologist Johann Stanislaus Kubary began his first South Sea voyage on the Wandrahm . On September 8, he disembarked in Apia ( Samoa Islands ). In the same way, on April 6, 1875, the natural scientist Franz Huebner began his first research trip. He reached Apia with the wall cream on August 20th of that year.

In 1881 the ship was sold by the successor company to the first owner, the Deutsche Handels- und Plantagengesellschaft.
