Wedding Date (Original title: The Wedding Date ) is an American comedy film from 2005 . Directed by Clare Kilner and written by Dana Fox based on the novel Asking for Trouble by Elizabeth Young .

action

Kat Ellis, who works in New York City , travels to London to attend the wedding of her younger sister Amy, where she acts as the bridesmaid . She learns that the best man is her former fiancé Jeffrey. Ellis hires call boy Nick Mercer, whom she learned about from an article in the New York Times . Mercer is said to be posing as her boyfriend and making her ex-boyfriend jealous.

Ellis asks her mother for separate rooms for her and Mercer, but the older woman refuses with the remark that she is "not stuffy" . Ellis and Mercer get closer. It turns out that during the relationship with Kat, Jeffrey cheated on her with Amy. Ellis resents Mercer for finding out about it earlier than she but telling her nothing. Mercer leaves the agreed fee and leaves the house, but comes back later. Kat's father makes her realize that she loves Mercer and convinces her to "get him back" .

Amy confesses the affair to her fiancé Edward Fletcher-Wooten, who forgives her and marries her. Ellis and Mercer end up dating; Mercer goes out of business.

Reviews

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times of February 4, 2005, in the film two appealing depictions would survive a "bombing with dung" ( "... presents the curious case of two appealing performances surviving a bombardment of schlock" ). He shows "the usual range of impossible loved ones and wedding activities" ; some scenes would appear to have been arranged for the British gossip magazine The Tatler . The story combines motifs from the films Four Weddings and a Funeral , Pretty Woman and My Best Friend's Wedding . Apart from “stupidity” , the film has a melancholy undertone.

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was a “wedding film based on a more than familiar scheme” .
