Velikowissochnoje ( Russian Великови́сочное ) is a village ( selo ) in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug in Russia with 544 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
Velikowissochnoje is located in the swampy catchment area of the Pechora , about 60 km southwest of Naryan-Mar , the capital of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
The place is located directly at the confluence of the eponymous river Velikaya Wiska ( Великая Виска ), which runs from west to east, with the Pechora arm of the river Borschtschewski Schar ( Борщевский Шар ) coming from the south . The two bodies of water form the Wisnitschewski Schar ( Висничевский Шар ), which drains 2.5 kilometers downstream into the Pechora , on the left bank of which Velikowissochnoje extends. The river Krojama ( Крояма , also called Krai-Jama / Край-Яма ) also runs through Velikovissochnoye in an arc from the north and flows into the Velikaya Wiska in the west of the village .
As to the administrative division, Velikowissochnoje belongs to the Sapolyarny rajon . It is also the administrative seat of the Velikowissotschni selsowet municipality , which includes Velikowissotschnoje and the villages of Laboschskoje, Pylemez, Toschwiska and Shchelino.
history
The settlement was first mentioned in chronicles in 1564.
Velikowissochnoje became an administrative part of the Nenezki nazionalny okrug in the Northern Krai in 1929 . Within the Nenezki nazionalny okrug , Velikowissotschnoje belonged to the newly created Pustosjorski rajon from 1929 and was its administrative center until it was renamed Nizhne- Pechorski rajon in 1932 .
In 1995 the Velikowissotschni selsowet was reorganized as a parish of the same name. Since 2005 Velikowissochnoje is part of the Sapoljarny rajon as the center of Velikowissochni selsowet .

Infrastructure
The place has a kindergarten, a general education school, a cultural center and a small hospital. Electric power is generated with the help of diesel generators. In 2007 the newly built wooden Church of St. Nicholas of Myra ( Церковь Николая Чудотворца ) was opened.
Economy and Transport
The population is mainly engaged in fishing and dairy farming. The place is the headquarters of a fishing collective farm .
There are no motorways to Velikovissochnoye. In the ice-free summer months the transport of passengers and cargo is done daily with vessels on the route Laboschskoje - Welikowissotschnoje - Naryan-Mar . In the winter months, the place can only be reached by helicopter.
