The place is located on a marshy river loop , on the left bank of the river Pjoscha , which meanders heavily in this area , 44 km before its confluence with the Chosha Bay of the Barents Sea .

As to the administrative division, Nizhnyaya Pjoscha belongs to the Sapolyarny rajon . It is also the administrative seat of the municipality of Pjoschski selsowet , which includes Nizhnyaya Pjoscha and the villages of Verkhnyaya Pjoscha, Wolokowaja, Beluschje and Wolonga.

history

The place emerged as a trading point in the first half of the 19th century and in 1830 consisted of two farms. Administratively, Nizhnyaya Pyosha became part of the Nesskaya wolost administrative unit within the Mesenski ujesd . As early as 1922 there were 36 farmsteads in the town, which now has 186 inhabitants. From 1924 Nizhnyaya Pjoscha belonged to the Kanino-Tschoschskaja samojedskaja wolost . In the course of an administrative reform in 1929, the Volost was transformed into the Kanino-Timanski rajon and Nizhnyaya Pjoscha its administrative center. With the dissolution of the Rajon in 1959, Nizhnyaya Pjosha became the administrative seat of the Peschski selski sowet . Since 2005 the place has been the center of Pjoschski selsowet . In 2011, Nizhnyaya Pyosha celebrated its 180th anniversary.
