Welschensteinach has been part of the municipality of Steinach in the Ortenaukreis in western Baden-Württemberg since the municipal reform in 1972 .

geography

Welschensteinach lies in the valley of the Mühlbach or Welschensteinacher Bach , a left side valley of the middle Kinzig valley . The stream named after the place feathers up the mountain in several stages in upper courses in smaller valleys, in which there are mostly settlements. The largest upper reaches are the Mühlsbach with its own longest source stream Harmersbächle and the Langbrunnen with its own longest source stream Birlinsbach, which flow together in the upper village not far from the church.

Further down in the valley of the Welschensteinacher Bach lies the lower village. The old community extends over a fairly long main valley and the smaller secondary valleys. The lowest point at the outflow of the Welschensteinacher Bach is just over 210  m above sea level. NHN , the highest on the Hesseneck ridge , reaches 676.8  m above sea level. NHN .

history

Settlement

Contrary to the apparent relationship with Steinach (Ortenaukreis) , Welschensteinach was settled from the Elztal or Schuttertal . It was not until much later that a breakthrough took place through the then dense primeval forests and thus a connection between Welschensteinach and the Kinzig valley . It was first mentioned in a document in 1239 AD. The name is derived from Welsche "Romane" and an Ache as the name of the water.

Incorporation

On February 1, 1972, Welschensteinach was incorporated into the Steinach community.

politics

Local council and mayor

Together with Steinach, Welschensteinach elects a council and a mayor. In addition, Welschensteinach is represented by a local council and a local mayor. The current mayor is Erich Maier.

coat of arms

The coat of arms of Welschensteinach shows a golden ploughshare on a red background, which comes from the agriculture in the valley.

Partner municipality

Welschensteinach has maintained a friendly relationship with the Alsatian community of Truchtersheim for 50 years . In addition to visits to mutual associations, families also maintain friendly relationships with citizens from Truchtersheim. The two municipalities have also been officially linked by a partnership agreement for ten years.

The 50th anniversary was celebrated on July 20, 2014 at the Welschensteinach village festival and again on August 17, 2014 at the Truchtersheimer Massdi.

education

Welschensteinach has an independent kindergarten and a primary school, a branch of the Georg-Schöner -Schule Steinach. The administration is located there, the teachers look after classes at both locations.

Despite the falling number of pupils, the residents of Welschensteinach insist on keeping the school. This is possible because the school was promised to keep it as a primary school when it merged with Steinach in 1972 .

The preservation of two schools and their economic consequences for the community provided material for disputes between some residents of the two districts of Steinach in the past. The Welschensteinachers insist on their rights, especially since closing the school would mean a trip to school of at least 4 kilometers for the Welschensteinach children.

Club life

Although Welschensteinach is a relatively small sub-community, the village can boast enormous achievements, especially in the sporting field.

The soccer team of the Welschensteinacher DJK played consistently in the midfield of the regional league for years , together with the traditional clubs FC Rastatt 04 , Kehl and Lahr . No other team in the surrounding communities has ever succeeded in doing this.

Parish

Welschensteinach and the parish of Peter and Paul are administered and looked after as a pastoral care unit together with Steinach , Haslach , Mühlenbach and Hofstetten . The parish of Peter and Paul elects its own parish council.

The parish church of St. Peter and Paul comes partly from the Romanesque , partly from the Baroque period . It also served as a fortified church and was last restored in 2012.
