Career

Werner Glaß has been a member of the 1. FC Kaiserslautern youth team since 1964. He made his competitive debut for the FCK professionals on April 5, 1969 in the DFB Cup (3-0 against SV Werder Bremen ) when he came on for Jürgen Friedrich in the 73rd minute of the game . On August 23, 1969 he made his Bundesliga debut when he was substituted on by coach Gyula Lóránt in the game against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen (0-0) in the 84th minute for Fritz Fuchs . This game was his only Bundesliga game. With the FCK amateurs, the defender won the runner-up in the 1st Amateur League Southwest in the 1969/70 season and therefore took part in the competition for the German amateur championship in May / June 1970 . The home game against 1. FC Lichtenfels ended 1: 1, the second leg was lost 1: 2 after extra time. On March 27, 1970, he had also represented the colors of the Southwest Association selection in the competition for the regional cup against Bremen (1-0 nV).

Glass joined the VfR Kaiserslautern for the 1970/71 season and again reached the runner-up in the Amateur League Southwest with the team from Erbsenberg . In the games for the German amateur championship he and his team failed in May / June 1971 against SF 05 Saarbrücken (1: 1, 0: 3). In both games he played as a right full-back. Also in this season he took part in the country cup with the Southwest team. In the first round, Südwest prevailed against North Baden (1: 1, 2: 0) and then failed in the semi-finals with defender Glaß in June 1971 against the Lower Rhine. From the 1971/72 season, the defender ran for Eintracht Bad Kreuznach .

He immediately won the championship in the southwest, but failed with his teammates in the promotion round to the regional league. In his second season, 1972/73, he was again champion and then sat in the promotion round against competitors FC Ensdorf and SpVgg Andernach and rose to the second -rate regional football league Southwest . In the last year of the second-class regional league, Glaß made his debut with Kreuznach on August 11, 1973 in a 2-0 home defeat against ASV Landau in the second division. At the end of the round, the newcomer finished in 7th place with 33:27 points and Glaß had on the side of players such as Karl Alber , Anton Burghardt , Heinrich Hufsky , Horst Kirsch , Max Reichenberger , Reinhold Scherpp , Karl-Heinz Volp , Erich Volz , Manfred Waack , Jürgen Wilhelm and Peter Zacher under coach Gerd Menne played 27 league games and scored two goals. Since the 2nd Bundesliga started in 1974/75 , but Kreuznach only had one year of regional league, Glaß and his club had to compete again in the amateur field in the southwest from this year. With the championship win and the success in the promotion round against Eintracht Trier and the ASC Dudweiler, Glaß and colleagues rose to the 2nd Bundesliga for the 1975/76 season.

With a 2-2 home draw against SSV Jahn Regensburg, Kreuznach made his debut with defender Glaß on August 9, 1975 in the 2nd Bundesliga. He was used there in 13 games; at the end of the season Bad Kreuznach rose to the amateur camp in 19th place with 23:53 points with SSV Reutlingen, FC Schweinfurt 05 and Mainz 05, who voluntarily returned the license. Glaß was still active near Bad Kreuznach at least until 1978. He was still active on August 5, 1978 in the first main round of the DFB Cup in the away game against Karlsruher SC (1: 3) in the Wildpark Stadium.
