Werner Kolhoff (* 1956 in Lohne , Lower Saxony ) is a German journalist .

Life

Werner Kolhoff passed his Abitur in 1974 at the Antonianum Vechta high school. He studied journalism , sociology and Dutch studies in Berlin and Amsterdam and completed his editorial traineeship at “ Tagesspiegel ”. In autumn 1981 he narrowly escaped release because he had taken on a sponsorship for an occupied house in West Berlin . Kolhoff made a name for himself in the 1980s as a journalist who consistently advocated the effective representation of the interests of journalists of the “Tagesspiegel” and against whom dismissals without notice were given several times, which were subsequently judged to be illegal in labor court proceedings. Nevertheless, Werner Kolhoff's time for the “Tagesspiegel” ended in 1983.

In the 1980s Werner Kolhoff, who had already joined the Young Socialists in 1972 , acted as spokesman for the SPD regional association in Berlin . To tenure Walter Momper (SPD) as the Governing Mayor of Berlin , including in November 1989, the time of the Berlin Wall , was Werner Kolhoff spokesman for the Berlin Senate . During this time Kolhoff earned the reputation of a "Berlin alpha animal". According to his own statements, before November 9, 1989, Kolhoff's main achievement was to “nail down” the SED leadership, which only “reported very cryptically” about a confidential conversation with Mayor Walter Momper, at which Kolhoff was present as his confidante . Kolhoff, on the other hand, spread the prognosis in public that “West Berlin will soon have to reckon with many 'GDR tourists'”.

After Momper was replaced as Governing Mayor of Berlin by Eberhard Diepgen , Werner Kolhoff worked for the " Berliner Zeitung " for twelve years from 1991 . From 2003 to 2005 he was "Head of the News Center" (a phrase from "Spiegel"; the official title is "Group Leader Coordination") at the Federal Press Office . According to the youth press organ " politikorange ", it was Kolhoff's most important task in his time in the Federal Press Office to repair the "damage to the image" that the " Hartz IV product " had inflicted on the red-green federal government and to try to gain the "customer's trust" (= of the voter) to win back for the SPD-led government.

After Gerhard Schröder's term of office as Federal Chancellor ended (on February 1, 2006), Werner Kolhoff became chief correspondent for the Saarbrücker Zeitung and head of the Berlin office of "Berliner Medien Service GmbH (BMS)", founded in 1998. The BMS, which belongs to the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group, supplies the Aachener Nachrichten , the Badische Tageblatt , the Hessische / Niedersächsische Allgemeine , the Ludwigsburger Kreiszeitung , the Main-Echo , the Mannheimer Morgen , the Münchner Merkur , the Nordsee-Zeitung and others through the Nordsee editorial team Associated newspapers such as the Stader Tageblatt , the Odenwälder Zeitung , the Offenburger Tageblatt , the Pirmasenser Zeitung , the Palatinate Merkur in Zweibrücken , the Pforzheimer Zeitung , the Remscheider General-Anzeiger , the Saarbrücker Zeitung, the Solinger Tageblatt , the Tageblatt in Luxembourg , the Trierischen Volksfreund , the Weinheimer Nachrichten and the Westdeutsche Zeitung with news and comments.

Providing the readership of the newspapers mentioned with news from Berlin and the federal government as well as commenting on current events are Kolhoff's main tasks as a correspondent and commentator to this day.
