Werner Schuch
Werner Schuch (born October 2, 1843 in Hildesheim , † April 24, 1918 in Berlin ; full name: Werner Wilhelm Gustav Schuch ) was a German architect , university professor and painter .
Life
Schuch studied architecture at the Hanover Polytechnic from 1860 to 1864 . Here he joined the Slesvico-Holsatia country team, later the Slesvico-Holsatia Corps . He was a student of Conrad Wilhelm Hase , in whose architecture office he worked until 1866 after completing his studies. He then worked for Adelbert Hotzen as a construction manager for the renovation of the collegiate church St. Materniani et St. Nicolai in Bücken . After a stay in Paris in 1866/1867, he worked as a private architect in the Prussian provinces of Hanover and Westphalia . From 1868 he worked as an architect for the Hamburg-Venloer Bahn in Osnabrück.
In 1872 Schuch began teaching at the Hanover Polytechnic (from 1879: Hanover Technical University ). Here he was appointed professor of architecture in 1875. Schuch ended his teaching activity in 1883 when he worked exclusively as a freelance painter. Schuch had already joined the Hanover Art Association in 1871 and had been intensively involved in painting since 1872. In 1876/1877 he studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . After retiring from teaching as an architect, Schuch first settled in Munich and later in Berlin and Dresden. His painterly work mainly includes historical and battle pictures, including one of his main works, the mural Die Völkerschlacht bei Leipzig from 1888 in the Ruhmeshalle Berlin in the Zeughaus Berlin . In addition, Schuch created some landscape paintings.
