Weskow , Wjaska in Lower Sorbian , is a district of the town of Spremberg in the Brandenburg district of Spree-Neisse .
Location and accessibility
Weskow is about four kilometers northeast of the city of Spremberg and is connected to it via the L48 .
history
First mentioned in documents as Wjaska in 1510 , Weskow was originally laid out as a dead end village by Sorbian settlers . The Sorbian name Wjaska means "little village" in German. The railway line , which runs on the southern outskirts, was laid out in the middle of the 19th century.
Shortly before the start of the Second World War , there were 832 inhabitants in Weskow. 96 Weskower residents were killed in the war. Today about 800 residents are registered in Weskow.
