history

Muckrow was first mentioned in 1527 under the name "Mokraw". The place name is derived from the Sorbian language and describes a "wet place", probably the location in a swamp area . There is a name relationship to Groß Muckrow near Friedland .

Muckrow was a predominantly Sorbian-speaking village until the 20th century. For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a total population of 107 in the 1880s, 102 of which were Sorbs and only five Germans. In the following time the number of Sorbian-speaking residents fell sharply, so that there are no more Sorbian residents in Muckrow today.

After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the previously Saxon Lower Lusatia passed to the Kingdom of Prussia . When the new district was formed in 1816, Muckrow came to the Spremberg district . In October 1938 Muckrow was incorporated into Sellessen . On July 25, 1952, the new Spremberg district in the Cottbus district was formed from the Spremberg district , to which Muckrow was assigned as part of the Sellessen community. After the reunification , Muckrow was initially in the Spremberg district in Brandenburg , where the place was attached to the Hornow / Simmersdorf district as part of Sellessen . After the district reform in December 1993, the community of Sellessen was assigned to the newly formed Spree-Neisse district . On September 27, 1998 Sellessen with its districts Bühlow and Muckrow was detached from the Hornow / Simmersdorf district and incorporated into the town of Spremberg .
