Wilfrid Perraudin
Wilfrid Perraudin (born December 3, 1912 in Moulins-Engilbert ( Burgundy ), † May 25, 2006 in Palma ) was a French painter .
Life
Perraudin spent his childhood and youth in Paris . He was the youngest student to graduate from the Académie Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs and then became a private student of Raoul Dufy . The period of military service in Syria followed . Back in France, Perraudin continued his studies at the Académie des Beaux Arts , the Académie Colarossi and Académie de la Grande Chaumière , this time as a master student of Jean Souverbie .
Wilfrid Perraudin then earned his living as a freelance graphic artist and painter . During the Second World War he was assigned to work as a draftsman in a French aircraft factory and was later forcibly transferred to Germany. There he met his future wife, the set designer Hildegard Wiehl.
After the war, Perraudin moved back to Paris in 1945. In 1952 he accepted the offer of a position as an art teacher at the French grammar school Lycée Turenne in Freiburg im Breisgau . Since then, the focus of his artistic work has also been in Germany.
In 1955 Wilfrid Perraudin had his first large solo exhibition in the Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum in Aachen . Numerous solo exhibitions followed. The most important were in Freiburg im Breisgau (Stadthalle, 1956 and Schwarzes Kloster , 1987), Guildford in England (1989), Frankfurt am Main (Deutsche Bank, 1993), Bonndorf Castle (1998), Nevers in France (Palais Ducal, 2002) and Palma (2006).
From 1960 to 1983 Perraudin realized 40 church art works in Baden-Württemberg , Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia . He is best known for his "light walls". The most important works include the monumental concrete glass window in the Church of St. Peter in Lörrach (1965) - with 220 m² one of the world's largest church windows - as well as the glass walls of the Church of Maria in der Zarten in Hinterzarten and the Church of St. Heinrich in Dortmund . He also designed numerous stained glass windows , such as B. the lead glazing of St. Gallus in Hugstetten and of St. Josef in Hamm / Westphalia. Other groups of works include large mosaic choir walls such as those in the monastery churches of Hegne on Lake Constance and of Neusatzeck near Bühl, as well as ways of the cross in mosaic and glazed designs.
Perraudin was also committed and known as an entomologist. In particular, he dealt with Carabidae (ground beetles) and Chrysididae (golden wasps). In this context, he met the zoologist Heinrich Wolf and, in 1964, Walter Linsenmaier , the world's leading specialist in gold wasps, with whom he had a lifelong friendship until his death in 2000.
After the death of his wife Hildegard Perraudin in 1991, Wilfrid Perraudin worked as a freelance painter in Marburg and Mallorca for 15 years . He died in 2006 and was buried next to his wife in the Bergäcker cemetery in Freiburg-Littenweiler .
