Wilhelm Carl Hermann Blume , from 1888 von Blume , (born May 10, 1835 in Nikolassee near Berlin , † May 20, 1919 in Berlin ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

origin

He was a son of the eponymous Wilhelm Blume (1795–1869) and his wife Luise, née Luttig (1799–1880). His father was a canon of Brandenburg and a high school director. The later Prussian major general Hermann von Blume (1824–1889) was his older brother.

Military career

Blume joined the Prussian Army in 1852 and served in the 13th Infantry Regiment . In 1854 he was promoted to second lieutenant and in 1861 to prime lieutenant. In the following year, Blume was appointed adjutant of the 27th Infantry Brigade and in 1865 as captain to Minister of War Albrecht von Roon , whom he served as an adjutant. In this capacity he took part in the war against Austria in 1866 . After Blume had led a company in the 16th Infantry Regiment in 1868 , he joined the General Staff as a major in 1870 and took part in the campaign against France at the main headquarters . He took part in the battles at Gravelotte , Beaumont , Sedan and Paris .

After the war he came back to the War Ministry as head of department and also became a teacher of war history at the War Academy . In 1879, Blume was promoted to colonel and took over as commander of the Magdeburg Fusilier Regiment No. 36 . In 1880 he worked in the capacity of chairman of the military commission in the negotiations at the Berlin Congress , which was supposed to settle the Greek - Turkish border question. For this purpose he was sent to Constantinople in 1881 . In 1883 he was appointed Chief of the General Staff of the IV Army Corps and in 1885, after being promoted to major general, he rejoined the War Ministry. Here he headed the military economics department.

On May 3, 1888, together with his brother, Blume was raised to the hereditary Prussian nobility . In the same year he took over the General War Department and participated in the work on army reinforcement. In September 1888 he became lieutenant general and in April 1889 commander of the 8th division . In October 1891 he was promoted to officers of the army with the rank and duties of a commanding general . After he was commanding general of the XV in April 1892 . Army Corps , he resigned in 1896.

Blume was chief of the infantry regiment "Herwath von Bittenfeld" (1st Westphalian) No. 13, holder of the Grand Cross of the Order of the Red Eagle with Oak Leaves and the Order of the Crown, 1st Class, as well as other high orders and decorations .

He found his final resting place in the Nikolassee cemetery in Berlin in field E.

Blume married Karoline Suffrian (* 1843) in Münster on May 13, 1866. The following children were born from the marriage:
