Heinrich Friedrich Wilhelm Graf von Ranzow (* 23. June 1795 in Ovelgönne in Wesermarsch ; † 27. January 1860 in Oldenburg ) was a Oldenburg shear Major General .

Career

Ranzow was the son of the Oldenburg Regional Court Assessor and Chancellery Ferdinand Wilhelm Graf von Ranzow (* December 14, 1754 - November 17, 1832) and his wife Henriette, née Avenarius (* October 30, 1771; † March 3, 1847). In 1811, at the age of 16, he entered the military service of the Kingdom of Westphalia and, after its dissolution in October 1813, was hired as an ensign in the Oldenburg infantry regiment . Here he rose relatively quickly to the top of the small troop contingent. In 1819 he became a captain , in 1833 a major and in 1839 a lieutenant colonel and finally the commander of this unit, now known as the 1st Oldenburg Infantry Regiment. In 1841 he was promoted to colonel .

In the spring of 1848 he took part with his regiment in the campaign against Denmark in 1848/49 and was given command of the 2nd Infantry Brigade, made up of Oldenburg and Mecklenburg-Schwerin troops, which took part in the fighting as a troop contingent of the German Confederation . When the commander of the federal troops, who was no longer up to his duties , had to be replaced in the summer of 1848, Lieutenant General Ludwig von Gayl , Ranzow was appointed his successor and promoted to major general on July 13th. When after the termination of the armistice of Malmo by Denmark of the war in April 1849 flared up again on February 22, Ranzow again led the 2nd Brigade.

He then took over command of the Oldenburg troop contingent and the Oldenburg-Hanseatic Brigade , the 3rd brigade of the 2nd Division of the Xth Federal Army Corps. He held both positions until his death. Ludwig von Weltzien was appointed his successor .
