Wilhelm von Windheim

George Christian Wilhelm von Windheim (born February 4, 1781 in Halle (Saale) , † June 8, 1847 in Breslau ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He was the son of August Friedrich Georg von Windheim (1733–1798) and his wife Johanna Dorothea, born von Bennewitz (1745–1807). His father was a Prussian lieutenant colonel and commander of the depot battalion of the infantry regiment "von Raumer" .

Military career

Windheim had attended the Jesuit college in Danzig . He then joined the infantry regiment of Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia in April 1795 as a private corporal and was promoted to second lieutenant by mid-October 1798 . As such, he was wounded in the Battle of Auerstedt during the Fourth Coalition War . Windheim fell into French captivity through the surrender of Magdeburg and was then made inactive. After his release he rose in May 1810 to prime lieutenant of the infantry with half pay and was aggregated on August 1, 1811 the Infantry Regiment No. 10, Colberg Infantry Regiment . From December 11, 1812 to June 2, 1813 Windheim was active as a district officer in the gendarmerie in Köslin . Then promoted to captain , he led a company in the 3rd Pomeranian Landwehr Infantry Regiment during the siege of Stettin . From April 14, 1814 to February 26, 1816, Windheim acted as commander of the reserve battalions in the 2nd Neumark Landwehr Infantry Regiment. He was then a district brigadier of the 2nd Gendarmerie Brigade, rose to division commander in December 1820 and was promoted to major on March 30, 1822 . As such, he was transferred to the 3rd Gendarmerie Brigade on March 1, 1831 and on May 25, 1834 appointed Brigadier of the 6th Gendarmerie Brigade in Breslau. In this position Windheim was on April 18, 1839 Lieutenant Colonel and on March 22, 1843 to Colonel promoted. On March 18, 1845, Windheim received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. On January 16, 1847, he was his farewell as a major general with the statutory pension granted.

family

Windheim married Henriette Therese Freiin von Münchhausen (1786-1857) on January 11, 1807 in Herrengosserstedt . The marriage resulted in five sons and four daughters.
