William F. De Saussure
William Ford De Saussure (* 22. February 1792 in Charleston , South Carolina ; † 13. March 1870 in Columbia , South Carolina) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ), of the state of South Carolina in the US Senate took .
William De Saussure was the son of Henry William DeSaussure , the second director of the United States Mint . He graduated from Harvard University in 1810 , then studied law , was admitted to the bar, and then began practicing in Charleston and Columbia. In 1847 he became a judge at the Law Court of South Carolina.
The year before, he had become politically active for the first time as a member of the House of Representatives from South Carolina . After the resignation of US Senator Robert Rhett , De Saussure then took his seat in Congress on May 10, 1852 ; he remained there after his victory in the by-election until March 3, 1853.
As a result, William De Saussure worked again as a lawyer in Columbia. For many years he was also the curator of South Carolina College , later the University of South Carolina .
