Thomas James Robertson (* 3. August 1823 in Winnsboro , Fairfield County , South Carolina ; †  13. October 1897 in Columbia , South Carolina) was an American politician ( Republican Party ), of the state of South Carolina in the US Senate took .

After attending prep school, Thomas Robertson graduated from South Carolina College in Columbia, now the University of South Carolina, in 1843 . Subsequently he worked as a planter . After the Civil War he took part in the Constitutional Convention of South Carolina in 1865.

When South Carolina, previously part of the Confederation , regained its right to representation in Congress in 1868 , Robertson was elected to the Senate along with Republican Frederick A. Sawyer . In 1871 he was confirmed in office, so that he ultimately remained in Congress until March 3, 1877. During this time he was chairman of the Committee on Manufactures . Robertson did not run for re-election; he retired, also because of poor health, from public life and died in Columbia in 1897.
