Huth was a representative of Expressionism who used both intense and muted colors in his works. He painted natural and urban landscapes, architecture, still lifes, figures and portraits, including some self-portraits. His landscape motifs included the East and North Sea coasts, Amrum and the destroyed Berlin. He addressed both the horrors of war and captivity, as well as the joys of life, which were expressed in scenes from the carnival, circus and fair. He preferred the latter motifs in the years before the Second World War. He came to old age in the Fischland and the Darss , where mostly watercolors and small-format drawings were created.
His works were u. a. Exhibited in Hamburg, Berlin, the Schleswig Museum, Cologne and Kiel. Some of his works are in the collections of the Alte and Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin, Angermuseum , Altonaer Museum , Saarlandmuseum and Pinakothek der Moderne .
