Winnie Nanyondo (born August 23, 1993 in Mulago ) is a Ugandan athlete who specializes in the middle distance . Between 2014 and 2018, she held the Ugandan record in the 800-meter run .

Career

Winnie Nanyondo gained his first international experience at the World Junior Athletics Championships in 2012 at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Barcelona , where he started in the 800-meter run . She qualified for the final and finished the final in 2: 07.23 minutes in eighth place. The following year she took part in the Summer Universiade in Kazan and was allowed to start over the 800 meters and the 1500 meters. Over the 800 meters, she was eliminated from the competition in the semifinals with a time of 2: 02.96 minutes. In the competition over the 1500 meters, she was eliminated in the preliminary runs. On July 18, 2014, she competed in Monaco and was able to set a new personal best over the 800 meters with 1: 58.63 minutes, which also meant a new Ugandan record over this distance. Between July 24th and August 3rd, she was allowed to take part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow . Although she was registered for the 1500 meter run , she did not start. In contrast, she reached the final in the 800-meter run and was able to win the bronze medal in a time of 2: 01.38 minutes behind Eunice Jepkoech Sum from Kenya and the Scottish Lynsey Sharp . In 2015 she was seventh over 800 meters in 2: 04.53 min at the Africa Games in Brazzaville .

Two years later, Winnie Nanyondo qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and was also nominated for the Olympic Games by the Ugandan Olympic Committee . In the heats, she parted with a time of 2: 02.77 minutes from the Olympic competition. The following year she took part in the World Championships in London and was eliminated there with 2: 02.65 min in the first round . In 2018 she participated again in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast , where she finished fourth over 800 meters in 2: 00.36 min. In addition, she achieved tenth place with a new best over 1500 meters in 4: 06.05 min. The following year she reached the World Championships in Doha , she reached the 800 meter final , where she finished fourth with 1: 59.18 minutes.

In 2014 and 2019 , Nanyondo was Ugandan champion in the 400-meter run and the 4-by-400-meter relay.
