Winter Asian Games 2003 / Ice Hockey
The hockey competitions of V. Asian Winter Games were held from January 30 to February 7, 2003 in the Japanese prefecture of Aomori in the cities of Hachinohe and Misawa instead. In addition to the host nation Japan, five other countries - South Korea , the People's Republic of China , Kazakhstan , Mongolia and Thailand - took part in the competition. The gold medal was secured for the first time by Japan, which did not lose a tournament. Behind them Kazakhstan and China won the other medals.
Five teams took part in the women's ice hockey tournament, setting a new record. The participants were the host nation, South Korea, North Korea, Kazakhstan and the People's Republic of China. The title was secured for the first time by Kazakhstan, which remained undefeated in all games. Japan won silver, China took bronze.
Venues
The men's tournament took place in the Niida ice rink in Hachinohe . The women played in Misawa in the Misawa ice arena .

Men's
mode
The six participants were initially divided into two groups of three teams. These played the two final round participants from each group in a single round.
After the preliminary round, the last two teams completed the game for fifth place. The four finalists played out the two finalists in a semi-final. The winner from it won the gold medal.

- ↑ The game between Japan and the People's Republic of China also served as the Far East qualification for the 2003 Men's World Cup in Finland . South Korea waived because the association had been awarded the contract to host a Division II tournament.
- ↑ The game between Kazakhstan and South Korea was stopped at 19: 0 after 23:46 minutes played in the second period after the South Koreans refused to continue the game. The game was rated 2-0 points and 19-0 goals for Kazakhstan.
