Vladimir Ivanovich Bauman

Vladimir Ivanovich Bauman ( Russian Владимир Иванович Бауман ; born April 9 . Jul / 21st April  1867 greg. In Menzelinsk ; † 15. March 1923 in Petrograd ) was a Russian geologist , mine surveyor and university teachers .

Life

Bauman graduated from high school in Kazan and then studied at the St. Petersburg Mining Institute with graduation in 1890. Then he taught at the Krasnoufimsk trade school . In 1895 he became an assistant at the chair for mining and mine cutting at the mining institute. In 1896 he was sent to Germany to study mining there.

In 1899, after defending his dissertation , Bauman became a professor at the chair for mine cutting at the Mining Institute. At the same time he taught mathematics at educational institutions in St. Petersburg. On Bauman's initiative, the 1st Conference of the Marquis of Southern Russia in 1909 was held in Kharkov and then the 1st All-Russian Conference of the Marquis of 1913. From 1909 to 1913, Bauman led the triangulation of the Donets Basin . The Bauman coordinate system was used, which was later generally used. He developed a geometric classification of the rock displacements. He introduced new rules for determining mineral resources ( Bauman's isohypse method and Bauman's formula ) and improved magnetometric exploration methods for magnetic ores .

After the October Revolution , Bauman was a full professor at the Chair of Geodesy and Marquetry at Tomsk Polytechnic from 1918 to 1920 . On his initiative, the 2nd conference of the Markscheider was held in 1921. Bauman was a member of the Science and Technology Council in the Mining Department of the USSR Supreme Economic Council .

Bauman died after a serious illness and was buried in Petrograd in the Smolensk cemetery on the field of the Mining Institute.

In 1930 Dmitri Iwanowitsch Muschketow founded the Bauman Institute for Applied Geophysics at the Mining Institute .
