Wolf Leder studied at the Reimann School in Berlin , the largest private arts and crafts school in Germany, from 1923 to 1927 costume design with Erna Schmidt-Caroll, set design with Moriz Melzer and spatial art with Herta Jess. At the age of 21 he began his artistic career at the State Theater Schneidemühl . From 1927 he worked in Berlin during the golden twenties , where he was already working as an outfitter at the old Friedrichstadt-Palast .

After holding positions at the Großer Schauspielhaus , the Metropol-Theater , the Scala , the Wintergarten and the Admiralspalast , Leder became chief stage designer at the Berlin Plaza from 1939 . The music hall was one during the time of National Socialism to the competence of the organization Nazi Kraft durch Freude . Leder designed sets and costumes for the cheerful entertainment and music theater. Leder, who was never a member of the NSDAP , helped Jewish artists and friends several times during the Third Reich .

Leder had been friends with many stars since the 1920s, including Marlene Dietrich , Zarah Leander , Heinrich George and Johannes Heesters . He also became known for his costume designs, which were quite revealing for the time, such as for the actress Margit Symo .

In 1944 he was called up for military service. After his return from an American captivity , Rudolf Platte brought Leder to the Theater am Schiffbauerdamm to furnish the play Hellhounds in 1946 .

From 1954 to 1992 Leder worked as head of equipment in the New Friedrichstadt-Palast . After the Berlin Wall was built, he continued to commute between East Berlin and West Berlin . In West Berlin, Leder mainly worked at the Theater des Westens .

His last artistic work was in 1992 setting up the musical La Cage aux Folles at the Schleswig-Holstein State Theater in Flensburg .

On December 15, 2005, on his 100th birthday, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.

Leder, who was “mentally still very fit” well into old age, died at the age of 103 in his apartment in Berlin-Halensee.
