Wolfgang Bergsdorf (born November 7, 1941 in Bensberg , Rheinisch-Bergischer-Kreis) is a German political scientist and was President of the University of Erfurt from 2000 to 2007 . From 2007 to 2015 he was President of the Görres Society .

Life

Bergsdorf studied sociology , psychology and political science in Bonn , Cologne , Munich and Regensburg from 1961 to 1970 . He was involved in student self-administration, among other things as a social officer for the Association of German Student Unions (VDS). In 1970 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD ; In 1982 he completed his habilitation with Karl Dietrich Bracher at the University of Bonn and was appointed adjunct professor for political science there in 1987 .

After Bergsdorf had already worked as a freelance journalist during his studies, he became deputy party spokesman for the CDU after completing his doctorate and in 1973 was the office manager of the then party chairman Helmut Kohl . After the change of government in 1982, Bergsdorf first became head of the domestic department in the Federal Government's Press and Information Office . From 1993 to 1998 Bergsdorf headed the culture and media department in the Federal Ministry of the Interior and was a member of the so-called "kitchen cabinet" and a. next to Horst Teltschik and Eduard Ackermann one of the closest advisers to the Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl.

From 2000 to 2007 he succeeded Peter Glotz as President of the University of Erfurt.

Wolfgang Bergsdorf has several positions in boards of trustees and foundations, e.g. from 1986 to 1996 member of the ZDF television council . Bergsdorf was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1985. In 1986 he was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit, in 1991 with the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class. Since 1991 he has been a member of the European Academy of Science and the Arts .

Since 1994 he has been co-editor of the Christian- oriented weekly newspaper Rheinischer Merkur , which was discontinued in 2010. He is a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Staufia Bonn in the CV . Bergsdorf is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Eugen Biser Foundation . Bergsdorf is co-editor of Die Politische Demokratie , the monthly magazine on questions of time, published by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung . In 2004 he was deputy chairman of the program committee of Deutschlandradio . Since 2006 he has been a member of the board of trustees of the Rheinviertel community foundation .

The political scientist Harald Bergsdorf is his son.
