Wolfgang Blochwitz (born February 8, 1941 in Geringswalde ; † May 8, 2005 in Bad Berka ) was a German football player and later an official. In the top division of GDR football , the Oberliga , he played for 1. FC Magdeburg and its predecessors as well as FC Carl Zeiss Jena . With the GDR national team , he took part in the 1974 World Cup in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Athletic career

BSG and club stations

Blochwitz began as a young player at BSG Motor Geringswalde in Saxony. At first he was an outfield player, but switched to the case by chance because the regular goalkeeper had failed. Chance became a permanent condition and Blochwitz continued his career as a goalkeeper.

In 1960, after completing an apprenticeship as a lathe operator, he moved to the upper division SC Aufbau Magdeburg , from which 1. FC Magdeburg emerged in 1965 . The first league use of the 1.82 meter tall goalkeeper took place on matchday 16 of the 1960 season. In the game at Progress Weissenfels on September 11th, he stood for the injured Hans-Georg Michalak in goal and subsequently replaced him as a regular player. Blochwitz played in 110 league games for Magdeburg and in 1965 was part of the team that won the FDGB Cup . In 1965 Blochwitz was also a member of the GDR junior national team, for which he played five international matches.

When the newly founded 1. FC Magdeburg had to relegate from the GDR league in 1966, Blochwitz moved to runner-up FC Carl Zeiss Jena . There he replaced Harald Fritzsche in goal and completed 165 league games and 29 European Cup games for the people from Saale . With Jena he was GDR champion in 1968 and 1970 and FDGB cup winner in 1972 and 1974. His teammates in Jena included the national players Peter Ducke , Harald Irmscher , Lothar Kurbjuweit , Eberhard Vogel , Konrad Weise and Bernd Bransch .

Selection bets

Wolfgang Blochwitz himself was in the goal of the GDR selection 19 times from 1966 to 1974 or 17 times according to FIFA's reading . He played his first international match on September 4, 1966 in the encounter between the GDR and Egypt (6-0) in Karl-Marx-Stadt and ousted the previous national goalkeeper Horst Weigang before Jürgen Croy rose to become a long-time regular between the posts. At the soccer world championship in 1974 in the Federal Republic of Germany Blochwitz was a substitute behind the Zwickau world class man and was not used.

As part of the qualification for the Olympic football tournament in 1968 the Jena goalkeeper denied five of the six games in the Olympic selection of the DFV . However, after losing to Bulgaria (1: 4 away, 3: 2 at home), the East German team missed the tournament in Mexico City.

Further career

After his active career, Wolfgang Blochwitz continued to work for FC Carl Zeiss Jena, including since 1978 as a trainer in the FCC youth team and in 1988/89 as chairman of the football club . He also often played in the traditional team of his club. Wolfgang Blochwitz succumbed to a stomach ailment at the age of 64.
