Wolfgang Wood

Wolfgang Holz (born August 24, 1936 in Chemnitz , † June 12, 2009 in Berlin ) was a German actor .

Life

After training to be an actor from 1956 to 1959 at the theater school in Leipzig , Wolfgang Holz received an engagement at the National Theater Weimar , where he appeared in Bertolt Brecht's play Mother Courage . In Weimar , where he played from 1959 to 1970, he was discovered by Helene Weigel , who then brought him to Berlin to join the Berliner Ensemble .

Wolfgang Holz was a permanent member of the ensemble from 1970 to 2001 and remained associated with the ensemble as a guest even after his retirement. So he played u. a. still as a partner of Martin Wuttke , Michael Gwisdek and Heinz Dieter Knaup in Heiner Müller's legendary staging of the Brecht play The Temporary Ascent of Arturo Ui . He was also recently still in Marat / Sade by Peter Weiss to see.

With Ekkehard Schall , Bertolt Brecht's son-in-law, Holz u. a. a radio play version of the play The Life of Galileo .

Holz also became known as one of the organizers and registrants of the great artists' demonstration on November 4, 1989 for more democracy in Berlin. At the event, Heiner Müller, Ulrich Mühe , Stefan Heym and Christa Wolf spoke to more than 500,000 people.

Holz died in Berlin after a short, serious illness.
