Life

In the same year he was appointed to the central committee and elected as the Austrian education and culture officer of this body and re-elected in the following term of office.

As a student, Mayer-König called together many cultural workers, especially in the years 1967 to 1970, in order to develop seminars with them in addition to the existing lectures and to take account of the teaching content that was not taken into account. According to press reports, these comparative , generally accessible events had a significant influence on the practical orientation and topicality of existing research and teaching. This initiative was open to the general public and was used by around 800 listeners per course.

In 1968, Wolfgang Mayer König founded a literary prize , which was awarded to Elfriede Jelinek in the first year for her very first, as yet unpublished texts.

For his teaching activities at the University of Art and Industrial Design in Linz, Wolfgang Mayer König was awarded the professional title of university professor on October 2, 1986 .

Mayer König has one son and lives in Graz.

He brought Elias Canetti , Erich Fried , Martin Walser , Rudolf Hagelstange , Holthusen , Hans Erich Nossack , Günter Eich , Karl Krolow , Walter Jens , Heinz Piontek , Horst Bienek , Peter O. Chotjewitz to the University of Vienna for the first time , in order to provide workshops and text advice (Erich Fried e.g. about his own language and about the problems of Shakespeare translations) together with young and as yet unpublished authors and listeners to be able to have a beneficial influence on the existing cultural scene. Elfriede Jelinek , Wolfgang Bauer , Klaus Hoffer , Joseph Zoderer , Peter Henisch , Gert Jonke , Heidi Pataki were able to present their first works at these meeting places, develop them further and realize opportunities for publication.

Hilde Spiel wrote in Kindler's literature history of the present , "It existed in fact, no influential new vanguard - periodical . In contrast, around this time the young lyric poet and student Wolfgang Mayer-König at the Alma Mater Rudolphina in Vienna, and later also at the universities of Salzburg, Graz, Linz and Innsbruck, activated the up to then moderate interest in contemporary poetry. An Austrian University Forum founded by him in 1968, entitled Literary Situation , held socio-political, linguistic, poetic-linguistic and general literary lectures and seminars, made unpublished texts heard and was sometimes able to gather up to 800 spectators on academic grounds in the name of literature. Everywhere in Austria, however, there were now conferences, discussion groups, symposia , especially in Carinthia and Styria, but also beyond the borders in Gorizia, Ljubljana and elsewhere. "
