Wolfgang Renner (General)
Wolfgang E. Renner (* 3. February 1959 in Kulmbach ) is a Major General of the Air Force of the Armed Forces and Deputy Chief of Staff CIS and Cyber Defense at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) of NATO in Mons , Belgium .
Military career
Training and first uses
Wolfgang Renner joined the Bundeswehr in 1977 . After basic training and officer training at the Air Force officers' school in Fürstenfeldbruck , he completed a degree in electrical engineering / communications engineering at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich from 1978 to 1981 . After the subsequent training as a telecommunications officer, he was employed as a platoon leader and squadron chief as well as an S 6 officer. From 1990 to 1992 Renner took part in the general staff training course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg.
Service as a staff officer
After serving as department head A 6 and department head A 3a in the 4th Air Force Division in Aurich , Renner was transferred to the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) in Bonn in 1995 . Until 1997 he worked as a consultant in the command staff of the Air Force (Fü L III 5 - telecommunications, telecommunications and electronic reconnaissance, electronic warfare), then until 2001 as a staff officer with the chief of staff Fü L. This was followed by a position as "Executive Officer "At the NATO AWACS Program Management Agency in Brunssum (Netherlands). In the next function he was again active as a consultant in the BMVg from 2004 to 2005, this time in the command staff of the armed forces (Fü SV 1 - operational principles NATO, EU, national). In 2005, he moved to the Military District Command II in Mainz as Head of Department G 6 . During this employment he was also employed as Branch Chief J 6 and senior German officer at the KFOR headquarters in Pristina (Kosovo). In 2007 he moved to the Armed Forces Support Command in Cologne-Wahn as department head G 3 . From 2008 he took over the responsibility for the support of the operations as head of department in the operations command staff of the Federal Ministry of Defense in Berlin . In 2012 he became office manager at the head of the "Armed Forces Management" department at the BMVg in Bonn.
Service as a general
From January 1, 2013 to March 8, 2018, Renner was in command of the IT system operations center of the German Armed Forces in Rheinbach . After preparation since March 2018, Renner was promoted to Major General, Deputy Chief of Staff CIS and Cyber Defense at NATO's Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons (Belgium) on April 1, 2018. He replaced Major General Walter Huhn on this post .
