Wolfgang Schall

Wolfgang Schall (born March 31, 1916 in Konstanz ; † August 28, 1997 ) was a German brigadier general and politician ( CDU ) and a member of the European Parliament .

Life and work

Schall took part in the Second World War as a major in the Wehrmacht and was taken prisoner by the Soviets , from which he did not return until 1955. He then worked for the German Armed Forces , was a consultant for psychological warfare in the Federal Ministry of Defense , headed the Panzer Brigade 24 as a colonel from 1966 to 1968 and was then a member of the army command staff until 1971 .

After his time in politics, he moved to Uhldingen on Lake Constance and did his doctorate. He was married to Gudrun Schall.

Schall joined the CDU in 1958, was the first general secretary of the CDU Baden-Württemberg from 1971 to 1973 , member of the Baden-Württemberg state executive board until 1977, chairman of the CDU district association Böblingen from 1974 to 1980 and co-founded the CDU local association Warmbronn in 1976 , where he lived from the mid-1970s. Before the federal election in 1976 , he lost the party vote against Peter Petersen , who eventually entered the Bundestag.

In the first direct elections to the European Parliament in 1979 sound was on the national list Baden-Wurttemberg selected. He belonged to the EPP Group and worked in the Committee on Youth, Culture, Education, Information and Sport until 1982 and in the Political Affairs Committee from 1982 . After the 1984 European elections , he left parliament.

He was head of the German section of the Anti-Communist World League.
