Wolfgang Otto von Bergh (* 22. August 1921 in Ravolzhausen , district Hanau , † 3. December 2015 ) was a German lieutenant general of the Air Force of the Armed Forces .

Life

Von Bergh completed an officer training in the air force of the Wehrmacht and in April 1942 was promoted to lieutenant and adjutant of IV./ Lehrgeschwader 1. On July 23, 1942 he crashed as a pilot of a Junkers Ju 88 over Heraklion , but survived the crash without a serious one Injury. On June 1, 1943, he was promoted to first lieutenant and appointed squadron captain of the 9th / Lehrgeschwader 1 . As such, he was awarded the Cup of Honor for Special Achievement in Air Warfare on May 15, 1944 , and served between May 24 and November 16, 1944 as the squadron captain of 6./Lehrgeschwader 1. After the end of the Second World War , von Bergh completed an engineering degree, which he completed as a graduate engineer. After the establishment of the Bundeswehr on November 12, 1955, he became an officer in the Air Force, which was established on January 9, 1956 . In 1961 he was appointed Colonel Commodore of the reconnaissance wing 53, which was set up with Luftwaffe deployment order No. 154 from July 21, 1960 to October 1, 1960 at the Erding Air Base and was subordinate to the Air Force Group South. On May 5, 1962, the squadron was relocated to its new location in Leipheim near Ulm , where in 1963 he handed over the post of commodore to Colonel Herbert Sporh. On October 1, 1974, he became Brigadier General and succeeded Carl-Heinz Greve as commander of the 1st Air Force Division in Lautlingen , where he was promoted to major general on October 1, 1975 . He held the post of commander until September 30, 1976, whereupon Major General Fritz Wegner became his successor. As the successor to Major General Hans Wilde , he was between October 1, 1976 and his replacement by Major General Fritz von Westermann on March 31, 1979, Commander of the Territorial Command North (TerrKdo Nord) in Mönchengladbach . Most recently von Bergh was promoted to Lieutenant General on April 1, 1979 and acted as the successor to Lieutenant General Helmut Heinz from April 1, 1979 until his retirement on September 30, 1981 as Deputy Inspector of the Air Force Lieutenant General Friedrich Obleser .
