Wulf Thommel

Wulf Thommel (born September 21, 1940 in Ravensburg ; † May 19, 2013 in Mainz ) was a German lawyer in the ministerial service and general secretary of the Academy of Sciences and Literature . From 2002 to 2006 he was CEO of the Humboldt Society .

Life

Wulf Thommel attended the humanistic Spohn high school in Ravensburg . After graduating from high school in April 1959, he studied law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . He became a member of the Corps Vitruvia. In 1964 he passed the first state examination in law and in 1968, after completing his legal clerkship in Munich and Augsburg, the second state examination. In May 1967 he was at the University of Innsbruck for Dr. iur. PhD. In 1968 Thommel was appointed managing director of the Karlsruhe Nuclear Research Center . As a result, he became a Councilor in the Federal Ministry of Finance , where he was promoted in 1973 to Senior Government. In 1976 he was promoted to government director in the Hessian Ministry of Culture . In 1986 he moved to the Hessian Ministry for Science and Art as Ministerialrat , where he resigned on December 1, 1993. From June 1994 until his retirement in 2005 he was Secretary General of the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz. From 2002 to 2006 he was chairman of the board of the Humboldt Society .
