Xavier is a male name. It goes back to the Basque place name Etxaberri meaning “the new house”, which gave the castle Xavier its name . This was the birthplace of the Jesuit missionary and saint, known in German as Franz Xaver . A younger variant of the name is Xaver . The name is pronounced like Chavier or Hravier.
