FLY was a Latvian music group that consisted of the musicians Mārtiņš Freimanis , Lauris Reiniks and Yana Kay and took part in the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest .

Band history

After an after-show party of the national preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 , Mārtiņš Freimanis came up with an idea for the 2003 competition : Why not several individual artists together?

In the autumn of 2002, during a golf tournament organized by the Latvian radio, Mārtiņš Freimanis, Lauris Reiniks and Yana Kay began to think about a common group and thus FLY was born. Their song Hello from Mars was written by Feimanis and Reiniks and recorded shortly afterwards.

Every member of FLY has their own successful music career. Yana Kay and Lauris Reiniks are solo artists who have each released an album, while Mārtiņš Freimanis was the lead singer of the band Tumsa Tumsa, which recorded a total of three albums.

Kay, Reiniks and Freimanis have all tried their hand at the Latvian preliminary rounds several times, but the breakthrough, that is, their chance to represent Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest , came in 2003 as a group.

After spending a lot of time together promoting their song, FLY grew closer together and they wrote new songs. The result was an album that was released in Latvia in May 2003.

Mārtiņš Freimanis died on January 27, 2011 at the age of 33.
