Yasemin Şamdereli (* 1973 in Dortmund ) is a German film director and screenwriter .

Life

Yasemin Şamdereli graduated from the University of Television and Film Munich . From 1993 she worked as an assistant director, screenwriter and director and from 1994 to 1998 she was a freelancer for Bavaria Film for the media educational project Das filmende Klassenzimmer . A first cinematic success was the inclusion of an early short film by the filmmaker in the short film compilation Kreuz und quer (1996), on which the cameraman Michael Ballhaus also participated. Şamdereli gained his first international experience in 1997 as a production assistant at Jackie Chan ( Who am I? ). From 1999 the film director also worked as a freelance editor for various media groups. Her highly acclaimed short film Kismet , which was shown at renowned film festivals, including the Max Ophüls Prize film festival, came out that year .

In 2002, Şamdereli shot the multi-cultural love comedy Alles gefürkt! For ProSieben , based on a script that she wrote herself together with her sister Nesrin Şamdereli . with Bürger Lars Dietrich , Türkiz Talay and Hilmi Sözer in the leading roles. She also directed the comedy Ich Chef, du nix , which aired on November 20, 2007. For ARD she wrote the script for an episode of the award-winning TV series Turkish for Beginners (2006).

At the end of 2009, Yasemin Şamdereli made her first full-length feature film Almanya - Willkommen in Deutschland , for which she again wrote the script together with her sister Nesrin Şamdereli . The film premiered at the 2011 Berlinale , where it ran out of competition in the competition program. The cinema release of the comedy, which revolves around questions of identity of a Turkish family in Germany and also tells the story of the guest workers in Germany, was on March 10, 2011. In the same year Almanya - Willkommen in Deutschland won the German Film Prize for the best screenplay in gold and the film award in silver in the category of best film .

Şamdereli made a rare appearance in front of the camera in Delicious (2004), a short film by her sister Nesrin.

Şamdereli has been a partner in S2R Filmproduktion GmbH since March 2013 , which she founded together with her sister Nesrin Şamdereli and the producer Anja-Karina Richter.

Şamdereli's parents come from Alevi - Zaza families from the Tunceli and Erzincan provinces in Turkey.
