Yousef Mohammed Karam Taher (born July 15, 1993 ) is a Kuwaiti sprinter and hurdler .

Athletic career

Yousef Karam gained his first experience in international championships at the Youth Asian Games in Singapore in 2009 , where he won the bronze medal in the 400 meter hurdles. A week later he took part in the youth world championships in Brixen and reached the semi-finals there, in which he was eliminated with 55.10 s. In 2010 he won the gold medal at the Arab Junior Championships in Cairo and finished fifth at the Junior Asian Championships in Hanoi . This was followed by participation in the Junior World Championships in Moncton , Canada , where he was eliminated with 54.63 s in the first round.

Four years later he took part in the Asian Games in Incheon , South Korea , and was also eliminated in the qualifying round. In 2015 he finished fourth in the 400-meter run at the Arab Championships in Manama . In 2016 he reached the semi-finals over 400 meters at the Asian Indoor Championships in Doha , where he was eliminated with 47.88 seconds. In 2017 he competed in the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar over 400 m hurdles and finished seventh. Shortly afterwards he won the gold medal over 400 meters at the Arab Championships in Radès and finished fourth over the hurdles. In 2018 he took part in the Asian Indoor Championships in Tehran , where he won the silver medal over 400 meters behind Katari Abdalelah Haroun with a new national record of 46.66 seconds . He also qualified for the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , where he reached the semifinals, but did not reach the goal there.

At the Arab Championships in Cairo in 2019, Karam finished second in both the 200 and 400 meters. Two weeks later he won the 400 meter title at the Asian Championships in Doha . He increased his personal best in the semifinals to 45.04 s and then achieved a new Kuwaiti record in the final with a time of 44.84 s. In addition, he was disqualified in the pre-run over 200 meters. At the beginning of October he reached the world championships , which were also held in Doha, over 400 meters to the semifinals , but could not finish his race there.

In 2019 Karam became the Kuwaiti champion in the 200 and 400 meter races.
