Cha Yu-ram (born July 23, 1987 in Incheon ) is a South Korean pool player .

Career

singles

Cha Yu-ram first played tennis and switched to billiards in 2000 on the advice of her father . After the sophomore year of middle school , she left school to focus on her athletic career. At the age of 14 she began to participate in international tournaments in Japan and South Korea , three years later she turned professional. She gained greater prominence in her home country in September 2006 when she took part in the Empress Cup and Ultimate Trickshot Challenge tournaments, which were broadcast live on television . As a result, she was briefly the most searched person on the Internet in South Korea. In 2007 she won the Korea Pro Pool Tour Championship. In July 2007 she took part in the men's world championship in the discipline 14/1 endlessly and was eliminated in the group stage. In 2008, she reached at the US Open of the Women's Professional Billiard Association third. At the 14/1 endless men's world championship of the same year, she was eliminated again in the preliminary round.

In March 2009 she reached the finals of the Women Players Championship as part of the Super Billiards Expo, where she lost to former world champion Allison Fisher . In May she took part in the World Pool Masters for the first time and was eliminated in the round of 16 against Shane van Boening . A month later, she reached the quarter-finals of the first edition of the women's 10-ball world championship and only just lost to Jasmin Ouschan (7: 9). In September 2009 she won the World Classic 9-Ball Event. In November she won the gold medal in the 9-ball competition of the Asian Indoor Games with a 7: 4 final victory over the Japanese Chihiro Kawahara . A few days later she reached the quarter-finals at the 9-Ball World Cup . In December 2009 she won the bronze medal in Six Red Snooker at the East Asian Games .

In March 2010 Cha won the Amway World Open by beating her compatriot Kim Ga-young 9-5 in the final . In the same year, she reached the quarter-finals of the China Open and the round of 16 of the 10-Ball World Cup . At the Asian Games 2010 she took part in the competitions in the disciplines 8-ball and 9-ball. In both competitions, she was eliminated in the quarterfinals against the later gold medalist. In the 8-ball she lost 4-5 to the Chinese Liu Shasha , in the 9-ball she lost 6-7 to Pan Xiaoting . At the Amway World Open 2011 Cha was eliminated in the quarterfinals. A little later she won the WPBA Regional Tour Championship and in the final against Chou Chieh-yu the Beijing Open. At the 9-ball World Cup 2011 she was eliminated in the round of 32. After she was eliminated in the round of 16 at the Amway World Open in 2012, she made it to the semi -finals for the first time in August 2012 at the 10-ball world championship , in which she had to admit defeat to future world champion Kim Ga-young 5: 9.

In May 2013, Cha was eliminated from the China Open for the third time in a row in the round of 16. A little later, she won two gold medals at the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games held in her hometown of Incheon . After beating Chihiro Kawahara 7-3 in the final of the 10-ball competition, she beat Tan Ho-yun 7-4 in the 9-ball final . At the 9-Ball World Cup in 2013 , she was eliminated in the round of 32 against Kawahara. At the 10-Ball World Cup in 2013, she lost 8-0 to the Chinese Yu Han in the quarter-finals . In 2014 she reached the quarter-finals at the Amway World Open, in which she lost to Rubilen Amit , and the round of 32 at the 9-Ball World Cup , in which she was eliminated by Akimi Kajatani . At the Amway World Open 2015 she lost to Pan Xiaoting in the round of 16.

At the World Cup of Pool 2010 , Cha and Kim Ga-young formed the South Korean team, which was eliminated in the first round 6-8 against the Italians Bruno Muratore and Fabio Petroni .

In addition to her billiards career, Cha is also a model and TV presenter. She has her own show ( The Legend of Billiards ) on TV station KBS N Sports .

Family and private

Her older sister, Cha Bo-ram, is also a pool player. In 2015, Cha Yu-ram married the author Lee Ji-sung , with whom she has a daughter (* 2015).
