Yu Xingze

Yu Xingze (Chinese 于 幸 泽, * 1976 in Xiuyan , Liaoning Province , China ) is a Chinese artist and professor of architecture and urban planning who works in Beijing , Shanghai and Bochum .

Life

Yu Xingze was born in Liaoning Province, China in 1976. In 2000 he received his bachelor's degree from the LuXun Fine Arts Academy in Shenyang . Yu Xingze then studied from 2002 to 2003 at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf with Jörg Immendorff , until 2006 with Professor Jürgen Meyer at the Kunstakademie Kassel . Yu Xingze discovered a transparent nylon canvas during his student days in Germany, which became a characteristic feature of his highly expressive works. After returning from Germany , he studied architecture at the China Central Academy of Fine Arts Beijing from 2010 to 2013, completing his doctorate, and from 2007 to 2013 he taught at the same university. In 2013 he received a lectureship at Tonji University in Shanghai. Yu Xingze participated in numerous international exhibitions in Germany, Denmark , Korea , Thailand , the USA and China . He currently lives alternately in Beijing , Shanghai and Bochum .

During his studies abroad in Germany, Yu Xingze discovered a transparent chemical fabric. It is firm, tightly woven, semi-transparent and can be used as a painting medium after simple processing. The transparency of the canvas gives the picture painted on it a new visual meaning. “Clearance” and “sensitization” of painting have already become new trends in contemporary art, and Yu Xingze's group of transparent paintings fits this trend. The transparent canvas is a great inspiration for the development of painting methods, which offers endless possibilities.

Yu Xingze is interested in the materiality of the objects shown, their consistency, how the light is reflected from their surfaces and their presence in space. Thematically, the memories of his childhood are decisive for his art. He has created a partly hidden and partly visible artificial world - political, animal, playful - with this unique material.
