Yui Kawaguchi

Yui Kawaguchi ( Japanese 川口 ゆ い Kawaguchi Yui ; * in Chigasaki , Kanagawa , Japan ) is a Japanese dancer and choreographer who lives in Berlin.

Live and act

Yui Kawaguchi started dancing at the age of six. Over the years she tried out various dance techniques and studied dance, theater and singing in Tokyo. As a dancer she worked a. a. at H.art.chaos, Kota Yamazaki rosy, co. and Motoko Hirayama and danced in Japan, USA and Europe.

In 2001, Yui Kawaguchi choreographed the East Asia Olympic Opening Ceremony. She worked as a choreographer and dancer with the media drive-unit cell / 66b and was used for performances a. a. at the ARS Electronica invited to the Seoul International Dance Festival and the Japan Virtual Reality Conference.

She has been working in Berlin since 2005. She danced u. a. with Ismael Ivo , Helena Waldmann , Nico and the Navigators , Nir de Volff, Tomi Paasonen and Flying Steps .

As a choreographer, she works in various constellations with visual artists, musicians and scientists and presented her own productions at numerous international dance festivals in 17 countries.

In 2006 she received the jury award at the Yokohama solo × duo <competition +> and in 2008 her multimedia solo dance performance REM - the Black Cat was staged in the New National Theater Japan. She received the Cologne Dance Prize 2010 for her solo andropolaroid . She is part of the original line-up of the production Red Bull Flying Bach , which was awarded the 2010 Echo-Klassik Special Prize and in which she choreographed the contemporary part.

She also pursued a collaboration with the jazz pianist Aki Takase (The series The City in the Piano , 2008-) and the visual artist Yoshimasa Ishibashi ( MatchAtria , 2014). In 2017 she choreographed and danced a contemporary version of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake on the Japanese TV program Meikyoku Album + (名曲 ア ル バ ム プ ラ ス) by NHK .

In 2018, the latest project with Aki Takase Da Capo was premiered as part of the Bregenz Spring in cooperation with the Kunsthaus Bregenz .

In 2019 she created the co-choreography Flying Pictures by Flying Steps in Hamburger Bahnhof , Apollon Musagète by Kadir Memis Company in Nikolai Saal Potsdam .
