Zala Kralj & Gašper Šantl (also known by the band name zalagasper ) is a Slovenian duo that mainly produces music from the fields of minimal , lo-fi , synth pop and indie pop .

history

The duo started their collaboration in 2018 after Kralj (born October 4, 1999) sang some texts for the pieces produced by Šantl (born April 9, 1996). Actually, Kralj should only be listed as a featured artist , but later both decided that they wanted to publish music in pairs. The singles Valovi , Baloni , and S teboi were released in 2018 .

In 2019, the duo became known to a wider public when they took part in the Slovenian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 EMA 2019 . After a first round of voting by the jury, they entered the superfinal , in which it was decided by televoting which they could win. They represented Slovenia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv , Israel with their self-written and self-produced song Sebi . There they qualified for the final and reached 15th place. In an interview on February 17, 2019, they both said they never expected to win the EMA. Originally, they just wanted to introduce their music to a larger audience.

In June 2019, after taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, they decided to change their name to a more understandable and pronounced name: zalagasper - an anglicised word made up of the first names Zala and Gašper.
