Tinkara Kovač (* 3. September 1978 in Koper ) is a Slovenian rock and pop - singer and flutist .

Career

Kovač studied classical flute at the Trieste Conservatory. In 1997 she released her first album, with which she won the Zlati Petelin Prize , the most important music prize in Slovenia. In the same year she took part in the Terry mystica project , a crossover of world music, jazz and rock, for which she received two other Zlati-Petelin prizes.

Her second album, released in 1999, also received several awards and gained international attention. Her third album was released by Kovač, who was meanwhile also increasingly active as a composer and lyricist of her titles, with the Slovenian EMI subsidiary Dallas Records . At that time she gave up to 50 concerts a year and appeared on German television with Carlos Núñez .

She then worked with musicians such as Massimo Bubola and Paul Millns . A song from their album O-Range was selected at the International Songwriting Competition by a jury that included a. Pat Metheny , BB King , Rob Thomas , Nile Rodgers , Arif Mardin and Jimmy Bralower were among the ten best titles in the Pop-Rock category.

After a concert with Ian Anderson in 2004, Kovač was a special guest on Jethro Tull's concert tour through Italy, Croatia, Austria and Germany. In 2005 she performed with the Italian singer Elisa Toffoli at a concert na meji on the Italian-Slovenian border in Gorizia, in the same year she performed as a solo flutist with the symphony orchestra of the Vatican in front of 185,000 listeners on St. Peter's Square in Rome.

In 2007 Kovač's fifth album aQa was released with Ian Anderson as a guest.

On March 8, 2014, Kovač won the Slovenian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 Evrovizijska melodija with the song Spet (Round and Round) and thus represented Slovenia at the music competition in Copenhagen, Denmark . She reached the penultimate place in the final there.
