Zawiść ( German Zawisc , also Sierobade , 1936–45 Winterfeld ) is a village in Upper Silesia . Zawiść is located in the municipality of Pokój in the Namysłowski powiat in the Polish Opole Voivodeship .

Geographical location

Zawiść is located in the north-western part of Upper Silesia. Zawiść is located about 13 kilometers northeast of the Pokój municipality , about 26 kilometers southeast of the district town of Namysłów and 44 kilometers north of the voivodeship capital Opole .

To the north and south of the village there are extensive forest areas that belong to the Stobrawski Landscape Protection Park . The Stober , a right tributary of the Oder, flows south of the village .

Neighboring towns of Zawiść are Szum ( Schumm ) in the east and Kopalina ( Kopaline ) in the south-west .

history

St. Joseph Church

The place was mentioned as Chirarchici in 1386 . In 1532 it was mentioned as Sowitzitz . The place name is derived from the definition of the area and means something like a squabble .

In 1785 the place is mentioned as Sawiscz.

In 1804 the place is mentioned as Sawitsch . In 1837 a school was established in the village. In 1845 there was a Catholic school, a mill, a forest guard and a further 34 houses in the village. In the same year, 294 people lived in Zawisc, 21 of them Protestants. In 1874 the district of Dombrowka was founded, to which Zawisc was incorporated.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 384 voters in Zawisc voted to remain with Germany and 40 for Poland. Zawisc remained with the German Empire . In 1925 the volunteer fire brigade was founded in the village. In 1933, 882 people lived in the village. On May 19, 1936 the place name was changed to Winterfeld . In 1939 Winterfeld had 862 inhabitants. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Opole .

In 1945 the previously German town of Winterfeld came under Polish administration and was renamed Zawiść and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship . In 1999 the place came to Powiat Namysłowski .

  • The Roman Catholic Church of St. Joseph was built in 1927. The inauguration of the church took place on November 30, 1927. The building of the church cost a total of 62,000 Reichsmarks.
